Research focus of the publications

Peripheral arterial disease (PAD)
A significant part of Dr. Lüders' research focuses on peripheral arterial disease. For example, a 2019 study analyzed the inadequate medical needs of patients with intermittent claudication, diabetes and coronary heart disease. The study showed that these patients often do not receive the necessary medical standard and presented a "real-world" analysis of 21,197 PAD patients. Another study examined the influence of diabetes type on the treatment and outcome of patients with peripheral artery disease, finding significant differences in treatment outcomes.

Chronic Kidney Disease and Cardiovascular Complications
Another important area of research is investigating the impact of chronic kidney disease on acute and long-term health parameters. A 2013 study examined how pre-existing CKD affects acute and long-term survival of critically ill patients in intensive care units. The results showed that higher stages of CKD are associated with increased mortality rates and increased need for renal replacement therapy (Springer). Another important publication from 2015 examined long-term mortality after invasive angiography and endovascular revascularization in patients with PAD and CKD, also finding high mortality rates.

Clinical trials and registries
Dr. Lüders has also served as principal investigator and contributor to several major clinical trials, including the FREERIDE trial, the ALECARDIO trial and the LEVANT2 registry. These trials have contributed to gaining important insights into the treatment and management of vascular disease and translating their findings into clinical practice.

Editorial and review activities

In addition to his research activities, Dr. Lüders also serves as a reviewer for several high-ranking journals, including Stroke, Perfusion, Annals of Internal Medicine and PLOS ONE. He is also a member of the editorial board of the Journal of Heart and Circulation and the Mathews Journal of Emergency Medicine.

"Through his extensive research and clinical work, Dr. Florian Lüders has made significant contributions to improving the treatment of vascular diseases. His studies have provided important insights into the risks and treatment outcomes of patients with peripheral arterial occlusive disease and chronic kidney disease, which has had a significant impact on clinical practice."
